The KIC-SLC is the “spider” version of KIC-SL with no electrical interface connector. It provides the same external mechanical interfaces and locking mechanism for insertions in small racks. The KIC-SLC is composed by an empty main body and a lateral cover that can be opened in flight by the crew (if required by the experiment protocol). The KIC-SLC is made of certified material with excellent mechanical and chemical structural properties. External and internal surfaces undergone appropriate treatment to guarantee corrosion resistance. The KIC-SLC (when cover is closed) provides one Level of Containment (LoC). In its standard configuration the KIC-SLC is fully qualified for manned missions and for many of the carriers available today.
